I have been researching whole house water filters for several years trying to determine what was the best solution for us. after reading the reviews on amazon i was able to make a decision that this would be our selection. we love it! the first thing i noticed was that our water no longer smelled like a swimming pool. the second thing i noticed was that after bathing our skin is not dried out, itching is gone, and our hair feels “smoother”(?). when we wash the dishes they are now, really, “squeaky” clean, the only time we ever experienced that was when someone came and gave us a demonstration of a very expensive water system we could not afford. i am looking forward to see how the plants respond to being watered with this new water since i have discovered, over the years, that the plants do better with rain water than they have with the city tap water. if i discover any additional insight or info i will pass it on in a future update.
i spoke with the service rep and determined that we did not need any of the options and we received the filter on time or a day ahead of schedule. if you are a really good handy man with good plumbing skills you can install this yourself. i opted for the plumber because i just did not have the time to install it, $250 parts and labor. it might cost you a little more but you will be happy with the water. we now have several people considering this filter for their home.

A bit more expensive to have installed but worth it. No more chlorine smell. No more crazy water pitchers with filters.

The Aquasana Rhino EQ-300 is a straightforward installation which is required to be done by a licensed plumber for the warranty to be activated. The simplicity of the installation makes it a low cost plumbing job. The effect on water mineral content, clarity, smell and taste is instantaneous and profound. No more bottled water and no more spots on the dishes coming out of the dishwasher.

Have had the system up and running for almost a year now, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! We live in an area with heavy sediment so I have 2 prefilters instead of 1 and I also have a Post filter. The prefilters and the 2 big blue tanks really get everything out because my post filter is always clean as a whistle.
We also have very low PH water (acidic) from our well, so we needed a soda ash system to balance the PH. This was the biggest difference to the “feel” of the water–makes it silky smooth, and MUCH BETTER FOR OUR HEALTH. Expensive, but worth every penny and then some.
We have so much sediment in our well water that we change the pre filters twice a month–mostly just to be on the safe side, and those filter replacements are not expensive–$5-10 each. Most people will probably not need to change filters that often, our area is known for lots of sediment in the well water.
Aquasana has top notch customer service. Our Plumber had not worked with threaded PVC before, so during installation he overtightened and caused a leak. Jesse at Aquasana rushed us new parts and was very helpful, even though we were quite angry at the time (at our plumber, but you know how it is….). MAKE SURE YOUR PLUMBER KNOWS TO LEAVE 2-3 THREADS SHOWING WHEN HE TIGHTENS THE THREADED PVC PARTS–VERY IMPORTANT! ASK AQUASANA IF ANY QUESTIONS, THEY ARE ON TOP OF IT.
As far as cost goes, I see that one reviewer is unhappy because his well system cost $200 more. I had the same situation, plus I had the low PH, so I had to pay an extra $1,000 on top of that (total cost around $2,000 plus $500 installation). I have looked into other systems, and they cost more and do less, that’s why I chose Aquasana.
Downside to this system is probably the upfront cost, and the maintenance. If you don’t have the acidic water, that will save you a lot vs. what I paid. As far as maintenance, you have to add soda ash to the tank periodically (monthly?) and change the pre-filter (1-2x a month?). But it’s easy to do (5-10 minutes), you can do it yourself, and any system will require maintenance of some sort.
Especially if you have a well, you need a good filtration system. Don’t skimp on your water quality! With the Aquasana system, we have the best quality water we have ever had in any house or apartment that we’ve lived in (I test our water with kits I buy online and locally–always excellent!). I drink the water without worrying about it at all. I do still drink bottled water when I’m working out in our home gym or when it’s more convenient, but it’s nice to know we have clean, pure well water coming out of our tap.

I have a 3500sq ft home with 3 baths and this thing is rated at 7gpm. I thought it would be a problem but it has been great. It did cost me about $500 to have it installed. The water tastes good. I would definitely recommend this product. Especially in Southern California where we were spending hundreds every month on bottled water.
5.0 out of 5 stars Aquasana EQ-300-HA2 Whole House Filter, May 24, 2011
By Cheri Silva (Tyler, TX, US)
I have been using my Aquasana EQ-300-HA2 whole house water filtration system for about 5 weeks. I am pleased beyond belief. The price was so reasonable for such quality. The water is pure, clean and tastes delicious. I noticed that the prefilter is already getting very dirty. No wonder our pipes get so much build-up and debris over the years. It’s hard to understand how the water district can charge for such filthy water. Also, one couldn’t ask for better Customer Service. It was excellent. If you are looking for the best whole-house water filtering system on the market today, with excellent customer service that stands behind their product, please go no further. This is it!

I had the Rhino EQ-300 installed a couple of years ago and the unit has been working flawlessly ever since. The water taste is excellent. Our water is now odorless. I would recommend this product to anyone wants to improve their water quality. I follow the manufacturers recommendation to change the pre-unit Filter candles once every 6 months. This does seem necessary as there is quite a bit of muck that gets trapped by the pre-filter candles. Make sure you have spare o-rings and silicon grease when you buy the unit. Check to ensure that the pre-unit’s filter housing’s o-ring properly installed or else you could end up with a leak. My unit runs perfectly dry and drip free. While replacing the filter candles (every 6 months), you would need to turn off the inlet valve and turn on an the taps in you home ( only cold water taps!!) to empty the water pipes or else the back-pressure will prevent you from opening the filter unit. Even if you did manage to open it, you could end up with very wet floors! The unit is installed in my garage where my main water inlet was accessible. You may need to replace your pressure main valve just to ensure the input water pressure is not too high. You could loose some water pressure in your showers when you install the unit.

this should be installed in every home. although care must be taken when assembling the plastic fittings (use plenty of teflon thread tape) to prevent leaking, once installed it is the best tasteless, colorless, odorless water i have ever poured into my gullet. no more itchiness when i finish showering. i had the water tested for chlorine a week after it was installed and the test showed zero parts per million. a great improvement would be to include all brass fittings, i would have gladly paid a bit more for them. overall i am quite happy with the water quality and would recommend this unit to anyone even slightly concerned about the the inherent problems of bottled H2O.

My husband and I tried everything to help our newborn’s eczema. After spending much time and money on lotions, creams and medications, we decided to figure out the root cause of eczema/extremely dry and irritated skin. To make a long story short we called the water company and found out that amount of chlorine put in our water was at the highest levels deemed to be safe. We then started researching whole house water filtration systems and decided that the aquasana rhino eq-300 was the one for us. Within a week of installation our son’s skin cleared up entirely!!! We were elated, and upset at the same time to realize what was actually a loud to be put into our drinking water. We love the aquasana rhino eq-300!! The water taste superb and the whole family has noticed differences in their skin and hair from making the switch. It seems like such a small price to pay for such a huge investment in you and your families health.

Our plumber made fun of us when we asked him to install this system a few years ago. A couple days later, he was bringing in bottles to fill because the water tasted so good. He subsequently installed one in his house.
There is great water pressure with this system, the water tastes amazing and we’re extending the lives of our appliances. Clothes don’t have to deal with all the mineral deposits, the water heater gets filtered water and there’s no occasional stinky smell in the shower.
Granted, for the price, I should be saying all this. You get what you pay for. This product delivers.
